What Does It Mean to Be Heart-Centered?
For a long time, I didn’t resonate with the phrase heart-centered. I heard it from the airy, “woo-woo” yoga crowd, and it felt vague—like spiritual fluff without substance. It didn’t land because I didn’t know what it meant to actually feel. I didn’t know how to connect.
But as my practices deepened, something shifted. I realized that being heart-centered isn’t about blind positivity or bypassing reality—it’s about being available to love.
It’s about stepping out of the mind and into the body, into a space that is clearer, more grounded, and more honest. The mind spins stories, replays the past, and strategizes the future. But the heart? The heart just knows.
5 Ways I Strive to Be Heart-Centered
Move energy through my body – Breath and movement keep me from getting stuck. When my body is open, my heart is open.
Meditate on the goodness of all things – I remind myself: I am good. You are good. When we meet, I love you because I love me. This shifts my perspective from fear to connection.
Make decisions from the heart – I place my awareness in my chest and let that space lead. The heart doesn’t overthink—it responds.
Avoid what creates tension – If something tightens my body, I pay attention. Some discomfort is meant to be moved through, but some things are just not mine to hold.
Forgive myself when I fall short – Living from the heart is a practice, not a performance. I won’t always get it right, and that’s okay.
The Practice of Living from the Heart
It used to be impossible for me to connect to a heart-centered existence. I didn’t understand how to feel, and I didn’t understand how to connect. But now, I see it as the strongest place to live from.
It takes courage to stay open, to lead with love instead of fear. And so, I return to my body, to my breath, to the quiet wisdom in my chest.
Again and again.
