Understanding trauma as energy
Issue 33 - Read Time: 2 minutes 12 seconds
Last time, we talked about how the body holds onto stored energy—unexpressed emotions, unprocessed experiences, and unconscious memories.
his energy shapes our lives, behaviors, and even our sense of well-being.
Now, let’s talk about what we can do about it.
The Cost of Disconnection
If you live in a state of chronic dissociation, it’s not random. Your system has constructed this life of disconnection to cope with something.
It’s simple: if being in your body felt good, you’d spend more time there. If being in your body feels bad, you’ll find ways to escape it.
This is the power of the unconscious. It holds onto stored energy and shapes your behaviors in ways you may not understand. You might find yourself behaving in ways that don’t align with your highest and best self, wondering, Why am I like this? Why do I keep doing this?
The answer lies in your body. It’s carrying stored energy—or trauma, depending on how you choose to view it—that needs to move through and be released.
The Path to Embodiment
This work requires a different approach. It demands embodiment and a greater capacity to hold the energy that arises when you invite it into awareness.
Somatic therapies are powerful tools for this. Psychedelics, when used correctly, can help. Practices like yoga, breathwork, and intentional meditation can teach your system to feel and connect. Even medication can play a role when used with intention.
But here’s the challenge: when you’ve spent a lifetime constructing a life around NOT feeling, reconnecting takes effort. You’re reteaching your body how to feel again. It’s not easy, but it’s possible.
The Bigger Picture
A connected person is a powerful person.
A connected person is a loving person.
A connected person is conscious and aware.
When you commit to reconnecting with your body, you’re not just doing it for yourself. You’re doing it for the people around you, for your relationships, and for the world at large.
Imagine a world where more people were embodied and connected. What could that look like? How might we treat each other differently?
